How we work

A Leigh shop, and the age rules are not flexible

Rabadia Convenience Store Ltd is a private limited company registered in England and Wales under company number 11066226, incorporated in November 2017, trading from 511 Holden Road, Leigh, Lancashire WN7 2JJ. Alcohol is sold under premises licence [PREMISES LICENCE NUMBER] with a designated premises supervisor holding a personal licence.

We operate Challenge 25: if you look under 25 we will ask for photographic ID and we will refuse the sale without it, including for people we know. We also refuse proxy sales, because buying alcohol for someone under 18 is a criminal offence for the adult who does it. Tobacco is kept out of display as the law requires, and all refusals are logged. Food is handled under a food safety management system, our hygiene rating is displayed, and anything prepacked here carries a full ingredient list with allergens emphasised.

Frequently asked

The questions we get most

Why are you asking me for ID? I am clearly over 18.

Because we operate Challenge 25, which means asking anyone who looks under 25 — not under 18. It catches people who are comfortably old enough, and it is the only way a policy like this works.

I have no ID but my friend will buy it.

Then we refuse that sale too. Buying alcohol for someone under 18 is a criminal offence for the adult doing it, and we will not be part of it.

Can you tell me what is in a sandwich?

Yes. Anything prepacked here carries a full ingredient list with allergens emphasised, as Natasha's Law requires. If your allergy is serious, ask us at the counter as well — we can tell you what is handled nearby.

Will you order something in for me?

Usually, yes, if a supplier carries it. Ask at the counter and we will tell you honestly whether we can get it and roughly when.

Why is the tobacco behind a shutter?

Because the law requires tobacco to be kept out of public display in shops. It is not us being awkward, and we cannot leave it out on request.

Do you reduce items near their date?

Yes, before they expire rather than after. Ask what has been reduced — it moves quickly and there is usually something.

Looking for something we do not have?

Ask at the counter. If a supplier carries it, we will order it in.
